There's this notion that suggests a great outfit has to be comprised of an endless layering of fabrics and garments. Now, this is certainly one option, but sometimes all it takes to create the illusion of being really pulled together is the use of a few strategic periphery items and great accessories.
In this case, I managed to create this incredibly simple look with five "no fuss" statement pieces. The entire outfit was styled around a monochrome tube dress. I'm such a fan of this dress, not just because it's huggy and super sexy ... but can we pause for a minute ... I mean look at these pics, LOL! I also love this dress for its versatility. With a few adjustments, it can morph from a shin length cocktail dress to a thigh-high mini dress ... and everything in between.
With this convertible dress serving as the foundation, it was easy to build my accessories around it. Using a raspberry leather and mud-cloth accented purse, one of my latest additions to my online fashion house, I was able to use my "Color Pop" styling method to incorporate bits of color into this ensemble in a fun cohesive way. Almond colored suede boots with frings for texture ... Black Panther styled head-wrap beret fashioned from an old shirt ... Topped with a simple brass wired necklace and my look is complete! As a finishing touch, I decided to add a pair of purposefully distressed / torn tights to add a bit of bad girl edginess to the look, because let's be honest, who doesn't what to be bad at least some of the time :) And there you have it ... a simple look made chic with just a few accessories, and most importantly? ... Another fashion crime avoided!
