As this strange winter weather tries to figure itself out, this work-ware outfit was inspired by another gloomy rainy day ... and YES, I wear thigh-high socks & mini skirts to work! An amazing military coat I found once again though one of my thrifting adventures. When I tell you this jacket was a great find? ... I mean it! For the amount you might pay for a cheap lunch, I was able to add this 100% wool, light navy blue, and very weighty duster coat to my personal collection. WIN! As a side note, when vintage hunting, I encourage the ladies to consider menswear. This wool duster was originally made for a military man, but now has new life as a regular staple in my closet. Besides, whether it's "borrowing" (but we all know we mean cutely stealing lol) your significant other's button up shirts, slacks, silk boxers, sweatpants, coats, or hoodies .... we women can make just about any menswear piece look great!
This coat, cute oxblood booties (a favorite color of mine for the past two winter seasons), both worn alongside thigh-high socks offer a nice alternative to wearing your usual winter tights for warmth. Of course, no outfit would be complete without the addition of a few accessories. As I've already mentioned, I love getting multiple uses from items in my closet. In this case, I chose to take one of my old cotton dresses with a bit of stretch and transform it into a fashionable headwrap / tignon which has been a fashion staple in various cultures throughout the diaspora for centuries. Finally, for additional warmth and general pizzaz, I paired a newly gifted infinity scarf and topped the look off with another style staple for me this year, a vintage Coach bag. The weather may have been dreary, but that's no reason to ever skimp on style!
